You can use the sounds to fall asleep as well as the alarm, just for you. The band transmits sounds through bone conduction which makes it inaudible to the person next to you. The cerebral activity is what allows Dreem to be so precise on determining your deep, light, REM and awake phases, instead of just movement or heart rate. “ You need to track cerebral activity to be precise,” Sacha, the one who made me the demo, told me. In comparison, sleep trackers such as the Oura ring claim 40% precision, and an app such as Sleep cycle is closer to 10%. The Dreem band is supposed to be 85–90% as precise as a sleep clinic, you can find more details on their website ( ). The main improvements are better comfort thanks to higher-quality materials, better tracking, better quality sound via bone conduction and a price decreased from 499€ to 399€. The first version of the band came out in June 2017, delivered in January 2018, and now the Dreem band 2, which I tested, has come out in May 2019. The two main drawbacks were that it was too heavy (500g, compared to 100g today) and that it didn’t help with falling asleep. It launched the first BETA version of its product in October 2016 and offered it to 500 users out of 7000 applicants. The company was started in 2010, built on scientific research showing that noise can stimulate deep sleep. They also have built in 2 proper nap rooms with full-size beds, which can be used as long as needed. There is also a team of 10 in New York for the American market, and the manufacturing comes out of Taiwan. Philips smartsleep vs dreem 2 software#It houses a team of 70 employees, divided between hardware engineers (with their own prototyping lab), sleep scientists, software engineers, the marketing team, and support. On the 29th of March, I went to Dreem’s headquarters in Paris on boulevard Hausmann in a very fancy startup office. Also, it was not a final version which can make some of the results obtained slightly different. Philips smartsleep vs dreem 2 for free#I haven’t tested that feature as I don’t have any sleep problems.ĭisclaimer: The Dreem band was given to me for free so I didn’t pay the catalogue price of 399€, therefore my take on price/value are less objective.
